Museums, art galleries, theaters, golf courses, public gardens, historic homes and weekly farmers markets are just a few of the multitude of opportunities for fun and leisure in this charming city! However, Chico is probably best known for being home to Bidwell Park, one of the largest parks in the country! Sprawling over 3,670 acres, the park is so large that it has been divided into the areas known as ?Upper Park? and ?Lower Park.? You can tell which is which just by observing the terrain. Upper Park is nestled in the Sierra Nevada Mountain foothills, with rocky outcroppings and steep hills. Lower Park is flatter and thick with trees. Hiking, picnicking, mountain biking, horseback riding, fishing and swimming are popular pastimes in Bidwell Park. A unique swimming pool is actually a concrete border around the creek, providing safe swimming for the whole family. Various swimming spots with rocky banks for sunbathing are located along the river. Lots of walkers, joggers and wanderers enjoy the footpaths and people of all ages enjoy birthday parties and weekend outings in this giant, beautiful park!
